Alexey Mikhalchik, the lawyer representing Gleb Trifonov, the editor-in-chief of the online publication Baza, has stated that his client`s precise whereabouts are currently unknown. Furthermore, it remains unclear whether any official investigative procedures are being conducted with Trifonov.
Mikhalchik emphasized that representatives from the Moscow Investigative Committee have not yet confirmed that any investigative measures are underway involving Trifonov. However, he suggested a possibility that Trifonov might be at the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Central Administrative District on Pyatnitskaya Street.
Earlier on Tuesday, law enforcement officers carried out searches at Baza`s editorial office, seizing computers and documents. Concurrently, Trifonov`s apartment was also searched, and he was subsequently taken for questioning. These actions are reportedly linked to a criminal case initiated against police officers under Article 286 of the Russian Criminal Code, pertaining to abuse of official powers.
It is alleged that these police officers may have illicitly transmitted information to the Baza Telegram channel. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has also reported that searches related to this ongoing case have been conducted across various regions of Russia, including Moscow, Krasnodar Krai, Krasnoyarsk Krai, and Belgorod Oblast.
