According to a list of directives published on the Kremlin`s official website, stemming from the meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports held on May 28, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin has mandated the annual organization of the `Defenders of the Fatherland Cup`.
These comprehensive, multi-stage sports competitions, specifically featuring adaptive sports, are scheduled to commence in 2026. Participation will be open to veterans of combat operations and military service who are engaged in adaptive sports. The directive calls for the submission of a draft presidential decree to establish these competitions, including provisions for a special Presidential Prize for winners of the all-Russian stage.
A progress report on this instruction is required by December 1, 2025, with subsequent reports to be submitted annually thereafter. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been assigned responsibility for overseeing the implementation of this directive.
