According to Australian researchers from the University of South Australia and Flinders University, regularly attending in-person events, such as festivals and farmer`s markets, can significantly boost happiness. Their findings were published in the International Journal of Tourism Research (IJTR).

The study surveyed over 350 individuals. Results showed that those who frequently participated in offline events reported experiencing less stress and more feelings of joy, enthusiasm, and overall life satisfaction. These in-person activities were also found to facilitate a state of `flow,` where individuals become fully immersed in the experience, losing track of time.

While online events offer some benefits, mainly increasing feelings of personal significance and accomplishment, the researchers noted they don`t evoke the same emotional depth as live interactions. In-person gatherings foster joy, engagement, and a sense of connection with others, making them particularly valuable for improving overall well-being and quality of life.

The researchers emphasized that the importance of events extends beyond mere leisure or entertainment. They can contribute to better health outcomes, enhance engagement in educational and professional settings, and strengthen bonds within teams and entire communities.

This research complements previous studies, such as findings that show dancing can reduce stress and anxiety by promoting endorphin production and enhancing psychological resilience. Group dancing classes, in particular, were found to be beneficial, reinforcing a sense of belonging and providing emotional release.
