British scientists have concluded that processed seasonal fruits and berries, particularly in powdered form, are effective in preventing various age-related diseases. Their research findings were published in the esteemed journal Antioxidants.
Earlier investigations by specialists at the University of Kent (UK) revealed that regular consumption of cherries could alleviate symptoms associated with neurodegenerative conditions like dementia and Alzheimer`s disease. Further studies subsequently demonstrated that cherries, when processed into juice or powder, exhibit an even more significant protective effect against these debilitating diseases.
Dry cherry powder has been recognized as a highly effective dietary supplement for combating age-related ailments. This efficacy is attributed to the fact that in its powdered state, the product remarkably preserves the powerful antioxidant known as anthocyanin. Intriguingly, the highest concentrations of this beneficial substance were observed in both unripe and overripe cherry fruits.
“Cherry powder is more beneficial for health than various other supplements,” emphasized , one of the lead authors of the study. She further noted that plants typically considered unsuitable for direct consumption should not be discarded, as they can be successfully utilized to create valuable biologically active supplements.
“Our innovative approach represents a scientific methodology that can be implemented not only in Kent but also across other agricultural regions,” Escurra added, highlighting the broad applicability of their findings.
In a related statement from early August, nutritionist underscored the importance of a comprehensive approach to dementia prevention. He advised that such an approach should integrate consistent mental and physical activity alongside a balanced and nutritious diet.
