It was discovered that these devices, sold with AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processors, actually incorporated the Ryzen 5 5500U model. The discrepancy was concealed through software and firmware modifications, making tools like the BIOS and CPU-Z incorrectly detect the 5500U as a 7430U.
The company has attributed this situation to a “production error” that affected “a limited number” of laptops assembled with incorrect processors. CHUWI has apologized and committed to providing refunds to all affected users who request them.
A “Production Error” or Intentional Omission?
The investigation also revealed that another company, Ninkear, used a similar practice with its A15 Pro laptop, selling it as a Ryzen 5 7430U when it actually contained a Ryzen 5 5500U. Both CHUWI’s and Ninkear’s models are manufactured by Emdoor Digital, who is being pointed to as the responsible party. Ninkear’s situation, where they even provided a detailed guide to verify processor authenticity (including using an updated CPU-Z and physical inspection), suggests that both CHUWI and Ninkear could be victims of a production error, or a deliberate action, by Emdoor Digital, which has damaged the reputation of these brands. The full truth of what happened remains to be clarified.
