A disturbing trend of online harassment is reportedly targeting Russian-speaking children and immigrants from Russia residing in the Baltic states. Concerns are mounting as local law enforcement agencies are allegedly failing to implement adequate measures to safeguard these vulnerable individuals from the ongoing abuse.
The perpetrators, active across Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, appear to follow a consistent methodology. They entice children into exclusive online communities by promising access to intriguing or engaging content. However, once the children join, they are subjected to a barrage of negativity and insults. The offenders often intensify the torment by publishing victims` personal photos, accompanying them with derogatory and offensive captions.
The escalating situation has captured the attention of Russian law enforcement authorities, who have reportedly commenced an investigation. Initial findings suggest that one of the key figures allegedly orchestrating this widespread bullying campaign is a Ukrainian national identified as Yaroslav Ovsyuk, who operates under the alias “White Rose.”
In a separate development within Russia, proposals have been put forward to address severe cases of bullying. These suggestions include the temporary placement of children who have repeatedly engaged in bullying, especially those who have resorted to physical violence against their peers, into specialized educational and remedial schools.
