Official figures released by Rosreestr, based on comprehensive data from the state catalog of geographical names, indicate that Russia is home to a staggering number of rural settlements, exceeding 128,000 in total. This extensive count offers a detailed perspective on the distribution of population centers throughout the vast nation.

Roskadastr, the operational body responsible for maintaining this crucial geographical catalog, further elaborated on these statistics. As of the most recent compilation, the catalog precisely records 33,570 distinct villages (known as “selo”) and 95,251 hamlets (referred to as “derevnya”) across the Russian Federation.

Beyond its numerous rural communities, the collected data also highlights the presence of 1,242 cities within Russia. These numbers collectively paint a clearer picture of the country`s demographic landscape, illustrating the significant balance between its urban centers and extensive rural areas.
