MOSCOW — Accidentally swallowing a wasp can lead to highly dangerous consequences, as the insect might sting directly in the throat. This warning comes from Vadim Maryinsky, a researcher at the Department of General Ecology and Hydrobiology within the Biology Faculty of Moscow State University.

Maryinsky emphasized that if a wasp enters a home, it should not be left to fly freely, as this poses a significant danger to people, especially children, and pets.

The most perilous scenario, according to Maryinsky, is when a wasp lands on food, such as a slice of watermelon. If a person eats the food without noticing the wasp and swallows it, the sting will occur directly in the throat instead of on a limb. This can lead to extremely unpleasant, even severe, health complications. While one option is to simply kill the wasp, for those who prefer not to, a safer method involves covering the wasp with an empty glass when it rests on a wall – wasps are not as fast as flies. Then, slide a piece of paper or a flat object under the glass and release the wasp outdoors through a window.
