Japanese clothing giant Fast Retailing Co., the parent company of the popular Uniqlo brand, has reportedly filed at least nine applications with Russia`s Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) to secure various versions of its trademark. These comprehensive applications include diverse logo designs and even the Cyrillic spelling of the brand, `Юникло` (Yuniklo).
According to documents reviewed from Rospatent`s electronic database, these trademark applications were initially submitted in August 2025 and were subsequently made public on September 3, 2025. Fast Retailing Co. is explicitly listed as the sole applicant for all these filings. The submitted materials cover multiple styles of the brand`s clothing store logos, featuring designs in both red and green color palettes, indicating a thorough approach to protecting its brand identity.
This strategic move by Uniqlo`s owner comes shortly after a significant appeal from Russia`s Union of Shopping Centers. The union had urged major international fashion retailers, including Uniqlo, H&M, and Inditex (which owns well-known brands like Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Oysho, and Pull & Bear), to seriously consider re-establishing their presence and operations within the Russian market. These trademark filings could signify a potential interest in or preparation for such a return.
