Alexander Khoroshavin, the former governor of Sakhalin Oblast, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for bribery, is actively engaged in self-education and personal development during his incarceration in a Khabarovsk Krai penal colony. According to available documents, Khoroshavin attends various clubs aimed at enhancing his intellectual level, including music, literature (specifically the “Book Lover” club), history, chess, and physical culture and sports groups.
The former official`s imprisonment stems from two distinct criminal cases. In February 2018, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court sentenced him to 13 years in a strict-regime colony, imposed a 500-million-ruble fine, and stripped him of state awards for the initial bribery charges. Following this, in April 2020, a second criminal case involving similar corruption allegations was initiated. By 2022, after a thorough review of all evidence, Khoroshavin received a combined sentence of 15 years in a strict-regime colony, with the original 500-million-ruble fine remaining in effect.
