The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has revealed a new form of telephone fraud targeting university applicants. Scammers, posing as university employees and promising assistance with admission to state-funded places, are reportedly stealing applicants` accounts for the `Gosuslugi` (State Services) portal.

According to information from the MVD, these criminals assure prospective students of “high chances” for state-funded enrollment. They then instruct applicants to click on a fraudulent phishing link, which mimics the official `Gosuslugi` website.

If an individual complies and enters their login details on the fake site, the fraudsters gain unauthorized access to their state services account. If the applicant refuses to follow the instructions, the scammers resort to threats, claiming the individual will be denied admission to any educational institution.
