The Russian State Automobile Inspectorate (GAI) has issued a reminder to residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People`s Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, about the mandatory re-registration of their vehicles.

According to current legislation, all individuals and legal entities who permanently resided in these territories at the time of their incorporation into the Russian Federation are required to replace their vehicle registration documents and license plates with Russian ones by January 1, 2026.

The GAI emphasized that after this deadline, driving a vehicle that has not undergone re-registration will be classified as operating an unregistered vehicle.

Furthermore, the State Automobile Inspectorate specifically warns car owners against using old DPR, LPR, or Ukrainian license plates if Russian registration documents and plates have already been issued for the vehicle.

Such actions will be considered an administrative offense under Part 4 of Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, which stipulates liability for operating a vehicle with deliberately falsified state registration plates.

It is crucial for vehicle owners in these regions to adhere to the specified deadline to avoid potential legal consequences.
