The Kubernetes community recently deprecated Ingress NGINX, a move prompted by years of insufficient dedicated resources. This decision triggered a scramble for alternatives, and a clear leader has emerged: Traefik. Traefik Labs officially announced this widespread adoption at KubeCon today, highlighting how major players like IBM Cloud, Nutanix, SUSE, and OVHcloud have independently converged on Traefik as their preferred solution.

For an extended period, the kubernetes/ingress-nginx project operated on borrowed time, sustained primarily by a handful of dedicated volunteers who contributed their evenings and weekends. Its eventual retirement, though impactful, was an anticipated event given the persistent under-resourcing.
