Blagoveshchensk, July 30. Following a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka, all communication service providers across the region have been placed on high alert. The Kamchatka Krai government reported that, as of now, no significant disruptions to core telecommunication networks have been recorded.
Nikolai Kiselev, Deputy Chairman of the Kamchatka Krai Government and Minister of Digital Development, conveyed via a Telegram channel message that any localized outages affecting home internet (Wi-Fi) or cellular services in certain areas were primarily caused by temporary power supply interruptions. He assured that all affected communication nodes have since been restored and are under constant surveillance. Furthermore, the vital zonal trunk communication channel remains operational and unaffected by the seismic event. Kiselev affirmed that the situation is being closely monitored, and currently, no immediate threats or risks are apparent.
Earlier, the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center, Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FIC EGS RAS), announced the earthquake`s magnitude as 8.7. A tsunami warning has been issued, advising residents in hazardous coastal areas to evacuate. Reports also indicate the collapse of a wall at one of the local kindergartens.
