Six months after revising a crucial agreement that previously restricted its independent development of cutting-edge AI, Microsoft has strategically launched three proprietary models. These in-house innovations directly challenge OpenAI, the partner in which Microsoft invested a substantial $13 billion. The new models, designated MAI-Transcribe-1, MAI-Voice-1, and MAI-Image-2, are now accessible through Microsoft Foundry and notably bear no OpenAI branding. This move underscores Microsoft’s clear intent to cultivate its own robust and independent AI ecosystem.
