Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin has instructed Alexander Dronov, the acting governor of the Novgorod Region, to coordinate the renovation schedule for Veliky Novgorod`s Krechevitsy airfield with the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia). The aim is to complete the extensive work by early 2027. This directive was announced by the regional government`s press service.
During a recent meeting in Veliky Novgorod, Nikitin and Dronov engaged in discussions concerning the development of transport infrastructure and the implementation of national projects within the region.
A particular emphasis was placed on the refurbishment of the Krechevitsy airfield, which has recently been transferred to federal ownership. The Minister specifically directed that all work schedules must be meticulously aligned with Rosaviatsia to ensure the project’s successful completion at the beginning of 2027.
Nikitin also announced plans for the upcoming signing of a contract for the development of the airfield`s design and estimate documentation. Following this, he instructed that a meeting be organized directly at the Krechevitsy site, involving Rosaviatsia leadership and all relevant stakeholders, to discuss the next steps.
Previously, Dronov had indicated that significant work on reconstructing the airfield`s runway and repairing its access road was projected to be finalized by the end of 2026. Technical outfitting of the airfield was initially slated to commence in 2024, with major runway repairs planned for the 2026-2027 period.
