Preview Moscow Forecast: ‘Egyptian Nights’ to Last Until Monday

According to Roman Vilfand, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Moscow is set to experience scorching and health-hazardous “Egyptian nights,” which are expected to continue until Monday. Nighttime temperatures in the city center will be particularly high, reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius, or even ranging between 23-26 degrees.

Vilfand specifically highlighted that the nights leading into Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be notably hot, referring to them as “Egyptian nights.” While residential districts will see minimum temperatures around 20 degrees before sunrise, the city center`s higher temperatures (23-26°C) are attributed to the concentration of tall buildings. These structures absorb intense solar energy during the day and release it overnight, contributing to the urban heat island effect.

The meteorologist stressed that this type of weather poses risks, as the human body struggles to recover properly in such elevated overnight temperatures. He further explained that the challenging conditions are due to the current cyclone`s position, which is drawing air masses from the Middle East and Africa. Vilfand stated that the term “Egyptian nights” is fitting, as similar temperatures, around 25 degrees, are typical nighttime conditions in Egypt.
