Preview Moscow’s Rain Peak Passed, But Unsettled Weather Continues

According to Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the `Fobos` weather center, Russia`s capital has moved past the most intense period of its recent downpours. Nevertheless, the city is still expected to experience continued rainfall, with a notable possibility of setting a new daily precipitation record.

Tishkovets clarified that while the most severe squall has abated, abnormal rainfall will persist across Moscow for the next 24 hours. He indicated that during this period, the city`s rain gauges could record up to two-thirds of August`s typical monthly precipitation volume. Furthermore, he highlighted the potential to surpass the existing daily record of 37.8 millimeters, which was established back in 1989. The meteorologist optimistically predicts that the rains will completely subside by Tuesday evening, paving the way for the return of warm and sunny weather on Wednesday.

The weather expert also underscored that, climatically, August is typically not the wettest summer month in Central Russia, making the current situation particularly noteworthy.

However, the present precipitation scenario in Moscow is indeed extraordinary. Statistical data suggests that downpours of this intensity and scale are observed in this region, on average, only once every two decades during this specific time of year.
