Russia`s Human Rights Commissioner, Tatyana Moskalkova, has advocated for expanding the powers of human rights ombudspersons, particularly concerning their work with families of prisoners of war.

She specifically highlighted that the relatives of those captured need social support, similar to families of individuals reported missing.

Responding to a question about legislating this work, Moskalkova suggested amending the relevant federal constitutional law. In her view, the law should encompass not only the restoration of violated rights but also active assistance in their implementation.

She noted that the current legislation does not explicitly mandate ombudspersons to provide ongoing support to applicants in such cases.
