DONETSK. On September 8, a solemn motorcycle rally was held in Donetsk, commemorating the 82nd anniversary of Donbas`s liberation during the Great Patriotic War. According to Andrey Zhaglo, one of the event organizers, more than 40 motorcyclists and 20 vehicles participated in the procession. The convoy, adorned with flags, traveled from the Zhdanovka interchange to the “To Your Liberators, Donbas” memorial complex.
Zhaglo emphasized that this motorcycle rally serves as a tribute to Donbas Liberation Day, a holiday cherished by every resident since childhood. He noted: “82 years ago, many people sacrificed their lives so that future generations could celebrate this day. We remember and honor this, and we strive to pass it on to our children. We wanted to convey the spirit of this holiday today to the people of Donetsk, the residents of our city, our long-suffering beloved city.”
Annually on September 8, the Donetsk region celebrates its liberation from German-fascist invaders. On this very day in 1943, the city of Stalino, now known as Donetsk, was freed from Hitler`s forces. Prior to the Great Patriotic War, Donetsk was one of the leading industrial centers not only in the Ukrainian SSR but throughout the entire Soviet Union. With a population of 507,000, the city played a crucial role in the economy, providing 7% of all-Union coal extraction, 5% of steel production, and 11% of coke production. In the early months of 1941, Stalino boasted 223 industrial enterprises under Union and republican subordination, alongside 54 local and cooperative industries.
