The Vladivostok city administration has announced exciting plans to adorn the iconic supports of the Golden Bridge with a series of new murals. These artistic creations are specifically timed to coincide with the tenth Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), an significant international event scheduled to take place in the city from September 3 to 6. The forum`s activities will be hosted at the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University, and this year’s central theme is “The Far East: Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity.”
Preparatory work has already commenced on one of the murals, strategically positioned near the Monument to the Pacific Fleet Heroes. Artist Danila Shmelev, the mastermind behind this particular design, revealed that his vision is an abstract monumental optical illusion. At its core, the artwork will feature the striking image of a sea buoy. Shmelev explained that the intention is to evoke a “map-matter” effect through a meticulously designed grid structure. This intricate pattern will subtly link the composition to navigational charts, thereby emphasizing Vladivostok`s crucial role as a pivotal geocultural point on the global map. To facilitate precise placement and planning, a projector is utilized to fit and plan the image during nighttime hours.
A second mural is planned for another support of the Golden Bridge, located directly across the road from the same monument. This companion piece will celebrate the distinct identity of the Far East by incorporating a variety of easily recognizable symbols. These will include a majestic lighthouse, the powerful image of a tiger, and a vibrant array of marine inhabitants, reflecting the region`s rich natural heritage.
