The Court of Rome has delivered a significant blow to Netflix, ruling that the streaming giant’s repeated price increases in Italy between 2017 and 2024 were illegal. This decision stems from a violation of Italian consumer law and the EU Directive 93/13/EEC concerning unfair contract terms.
As a result of the ruling, the contested contract clauses have been declared void. Netflix is now mandated to revert its current prices to their original 2015 launch levels. Furthermore, the company is required to notify millions of its current and former Italian subscribers about this judgment. This landmark decision could potentially entitle affected subscribers to refunds of up to €500.
