A new type of phone fraud has emerged where criminals impersonate university representatives to steal prospective students` accounts on the “Gosuslugi” state services portal under the pretense of assisting with admission, particularly for state-funded places.

These fraudsters promise applicants “high chances” of securing a state-funded spot. They then instruct the students to follow a phishing link sent to them, which leads to a fake website designed to look identical to the official Gosuslugi portal.

According to reports, if an individual complies and enters their credentials on the fake site, the hackers successfully steal their state portal account. Should the applicant refuse to follow their instructions, the scammers resort to threats, claiming that the graduate “will not be accepted anywhere at all.”

In related news concerning financial security, Alexander Dubrovin, an expert from Edna company, previously pointed out that checking the status of a SIM card can be a useful measure to protect savings held in bank accounts, noting that Russian banks employ numerous security protocols for client funds.
