VELIKY NOVGOROD – The administration of `Lesnaya Skazka` children`s camp in the Starorussky district of the Novgorod region, where the third session was prematurely concluded following a Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) directive, has announced plans to provide incentives for children, such as gifts or discounts for the next season.

The camp`s management clarified that an enterovirus strain, typically causing a slight fever and sore throat, was detected. Twelve children were hospitalized. Rospotrebnadzor`s investigation revealed that the infection was imported: one child in a family had recovered from enterovirus, and another contracted it from them, with initial symptoms appearing only after arrival at the camp.

Camp officials confirmed that during a check of all approximately 130 children, 17 asymptomatic carriers of the viral infection were identified. Following Rospotrebnadzor`s order, the children were isolated, and the camp underwent disinfection. Children were transported home, including to St. Petersburg, on Sunday and Monday.

“Such situations are not extraordinary… We, for our part, were prepared to continue the session and complete it on schedule, adhering to all necessary requirements. However, based on the Rospotrebnadzor decree, the camp was forced to suspend the third session… We will definitely work out bonuses for the children in the form of gifts or discounts for the next season,” stated a message posted on the camp`s `VKontakte` social media page.

According to the regional prosecutor`s office, six of the twelve hospitalized children currently remain in the hospital. The supervisory authority and the Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the region are conducting a full investigation into the incident.

Information on the camp`s social media page indicated that the third session was originally scheduled to run from July 15 to August 4.
