Scientists from the Hong Kong Children Eye Study have discovered that regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids significantly reduces the risk of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. The compelling findings of this extensive research were recently published in the prestigious British Journal of Ophthalmology.

The study involved a substantial cohort of over a thousand Chinese children, all aged between 6 and 8 years. Researchers meticulously collected data on their dietary habits, specifically tracking their intake of both omega-3 and saturated fats. They suggest that proactively incorporating omega-3-rich foods – such as fatty fish, flaxseed, and various nuts – into a child`s regular diet could serve as a straightforward yet highly effective strategy for preventing the onset and progression of nearsightedness.
