CRITICAL WARNING: Cybersecurity experts caution that purchasing concert tickets from unofficial online sources in Russia could lead to severe consequences, including criminal charges.

Buying concert tickets online from unverified sellers poses a significant legal threat to purchasers, potentially resulting in criminal prosecution. This serious warning was issued by Konstantin Gorbunov, a web developer and cybersecurity expert at “Kod Bezopasnosti,” in an interview with “Gazeta.Ru.”

Gorbunov highlighted a prevalent scam where “spare tickets” are advertised at seemingly attractive prices in online chats and thematic groups. However, once the payment is transferred, buyers often receive no ticket at all, or the ticket provided is either already used or, more critically, stolen.

“In the latter scenario, there`s a considerable risk of becoming entangled in a criminal investigation,” Gorbunov emphasized.

Beyond direct fraudulent sales, cybercriminals also employ a sophisticated tactic of creating counterfeit websites. These fake platforms meticulously replicate the design of official venues or ticketing services, often using subtly altered domain names to trick users into divulging personal and financial information.

Previous Incidents Underscore the Threat

This cybersecurity alert echoes past incidents, such as when Irina Myagkova, a creative producer and comedian from the “Zhensky Stendap” show on TNT, warned her fanbase about scammers selling fraudulent tickets to her performances. One of her followers reported a case where fraudsters were selling tickets for identical seats in the auditorium via Telegram, leading to multiple attendees arriving with matching ticket information for the same location.

How to Protect Yourself

To safeguard against these risks, it is strongly recommended that consumers only purchase tickets directly from official and authorized vendors or through the official website of the event organizer. Always scrutinize website URLs for any discrepancies or suspicious spellings, and exercise extreme caution when encountering deals that appear unusually good or too cheap to be true. Verifying seller legitimacy and using secure payment methods are crucial steps to avoid falling victim to online ticket fraud.
