OpenAI is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire fusion energy from Helion Energy. Under the proposed agreement, OpenAI aims to secure 5 gigawatts of electricity by 2030, with plans to expand this to 50 gigawatts by 2035. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has recused himself from these negotiations and stepped down as Helion’s board chair, mirroring a similar action he took last year concerning nuclear startup Oklo.
