Ilya Balanin, head of the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (FOMS), announced at a meeting of the Federation Council committee on budget and financial markets that payments to medical workers for identifying oncological diseases were made five times more frequently in 2024 compared to 2023.
Medical organizations receive additional funding for each confirmed case of cancer found during routine check-ups or preventative examinations. These funds are subsequently distributed as payments to the staff involved. This system of incentive payments has been active since 2020.
“Dear colleagues, if you recall, last year we restructured this payment, and you paid attention to this as well. Currently, 1000 rubles are paid to the first medical professional who shows alertness regarding oncology, and the effectiveness of this payment increased fivefold last year compared to 2023,” Balanin stated.
He specified that 55 million rubles were allocated in 2024 for these incentive payments for the detection of oncological diseases.
