Poland has purchased 18 multi-purpose surface surveillance radars. These systems are based on the Israeli ELM-2238/X STAR X radar technology.
The acquired radars are designated for monitoring Poland`s Baltic Sea coastline and its border areas adjacent to Russia`s Kaliningrad Oblast. Additionally, the system is planned for deployment as part of the “Eastern Shield” initiative, enhancing defensive infrastructure along Poland`s eastern frontier.
The total value of the contract amounts to 430 million Polish zlotys, equivalent to approximately 118.5 million US dollars. The delivery of the radars is scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2030.
In a related development, Poland recently reported scrambling its aircraft in response to what it described as “Russian activity.” The Polish command stated it is actively monitoring the situation and confirmed that its forces remain in a state of full readiness for immediate response.
