MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the farewell ceremony for Irina Podnosova, who served as Chairwoman of the Supreme Court.
The solemn ceremony took place at the Central Clinical Hospital, where an honor guard stood vigil.
The head of state approached the coffin with a bouquet of dark roses, bowed his head in a gesture of profound sorrow and remembrance, kissed the shroud, and made the sign of the cross.
Following this, Vladimir Putin offered his personal condolences to the family and close relatives of the late judge. He spent approximately fifteen minutes speaking with them and offered warm embraces.
Wreaths were also sent to the ceremony from numerous high-ranking government bodies, ministries and departments, regional governors, various judicial instances, court collectives, and legal universities.
Irina Podnosova passed away on July 22 at the age of 71. She held the position of Supreme Court Chair for just over a year, having taken office in April 2024 following the death of Vyacheslav Lebedev, who had led the court since 1991.
