Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his parents always held a deep affection for their ancestral home. He mentioned that he inherited this sentiment and came to view his homeland with similar warmth.

Speaking with Pavel Zarubin, a TV journalist for Rossiya 1, Putin explained that his father was born in Petersburg before World War I. The family later relocated to a village in the Tver region. His mother was also born and raised in that same village.

“Consequently, they always recalled their small homeland with great warmth,” Putin recounted.

He stressed that he adopted this same attitude towards his own roots.

“My father considered not only Petersburg his homeland but also the village where he grew up in the Kalinin region – which is now the Tver region, and was also Tver back then. And the entire country: they didn`t speak about it often, but when discussing the Great Patriotic War or the post-war reconstruction, their conversations, coming from very simple people, always intertwined their connection to their small homeland, their family, and the country as a whole. It was always seen as a unified, single entity. And that`s the perspective I became accustomed to,” the Russian President elaborated.
