Wi-Fi 8 Promises Enhanced Stability and Lower Latency, Expected in 2028

The next generation of wireless communication, known as Wi-Fi 8, is poised to significantly enhance connection stability and reduce signal latency. This was recently announced by American semiconductor company Qualcomm in a detailed blog post.

Qualcomm elaborated on the advantages of the 802.11bn wireless internet specification, or Wi-Fi 8, which is slated for release in 2028. According to the company`s engineers, Wi-Fi 8 will maintain the same throughput capabilities as its predecessor, Wi-Fi 7, but will distinguish itself through markedly improved connection reliability and minimal signal transmission delay.

“Wi-Fi 8 marks a fundamental shift — moving beyond peak speeds to ensure stable performance in complex real-world conditions,” Qualcomm engineers stated. They further explained that this new standard would be particularly valuable in highly congested network environments, such as those with a multitude of simultaneous connections.

The blog post reveals that Wi-Fi 8 is expected to deliver at least a 25 percent increase in throughput under challenging signal reception conditions compared to Wi-Fi 7. Additionally, a similar 25 percent reduction in both latency and lost data packets is anticipated.

Qualcomm concluded that the new specification will be immensely beneficial given the rapidly increasing number of personal devices and the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) powered gadgets that demand more reliable and efficient wireless connectivity.

Initial insights into the Wi-Fi 8 wireless internet specification were first shared in November. Experts from the Wi-Fi Alliance identified enhanced stability and optimized performance as the core features of this groundbreaking new standard.
