Festivities marking the 645th anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo, a pivotal historical event for Russia, have officially commenced in the Tula region. These significant celebratory events are unfolding across the various sites of the Kulikovo Field State Museum-Reserve.
Symbol of National Unity
Dmitry Milyaev, Governor of the Tula region, highlighted the profound importance of the Kulikovo Battle, calling it a powerful symbol of national unity and military valor. He emphasized its decisive role in shaping the trajectory of the Russian state.
Opening Ceremonies and Traditional Crafts
The commemorations began reverently with a sacred liturgy and a memorial service held at the Sergiy of Radonezh Church. This solemn act honored the leaders and warriors who bravely sacrificed their lives for their homeland throughout history.
On Red Hill, visitors were transported back in time to a vibrant medieval marketplace. Here, authentic masterclasses offered a hands-on experience in traditional crafts, allowing guests to try their skills in:

Culminating Events and Grand Reenactment
The day`s schedule was packed with a series of culminating events designed to honor the historical significance of the battle. These included:
- The official opening ceremony of the festival
- A solemn procession to the monument-column dedicated to Dmitry Donskoy
- A memorial service for fallen soldiers
- A civic rally commemorating the 645th anniversary of the Kulikovo Battle
- A military ceremonial featuring a marching parade by servicemen of the 106th Tula Airborne Division
According to Governor Milyaev, the most spectacular and anticipated event was the large-scale battle reenactment. This immersive historical display brought together 350 reenactors from 50 clubs across Russia, representing regions from Tula, Moscow, and Lipetsk to Kaliningrad, Rostov-on-Don, and Vorkuta.
The organization of these extensive celebrations for the 645th anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Tula Region, and the Kulikovo Field State Museum-Reserve.
