Russia will support the creation of literary works that combine high artistic merit and an active civic stance. This is outlined in a relevant document published on Friday on the official legal acts website.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Friday approving the `Fundamentals of State Language Policy` in Russia.
According to the document, the objectives of the state language policy in ensuring the preservation and development of the Russian language include supporting contemporary literary creation that combines high artistic value and a civic stance, as well as improving the system of book publishing and distribution in the Russian Federation.
Furthermore, as part of the state language policy, instructions were given to ensure the high artistic and moral quality of children`s books, increase the accessibility of children`s literature, and introduce children and their parents to the best works of domestic and world literature.
The document also noted the necessity of effective use of literary and other cultural heritage created in the Russian language for the spiritual and moral education of citizens.
