Renowned Russian actor and director Yuri Moroz passed away overnight on Monday. The news was confirmed by Igor Zolotovitsky, rector of the Moscow Art Theatre School.
“He died tonight. Yes, he was ill,” Zolotovitsky stated.
Born in 1956 in the city of Krasnodon, Yuri Moroz graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1979 and the directing faculty of VGIK in 1988. He began his film career acting in Sergei Gerasimov`s dilogy `Youth of Peter the Great` and `At the Beginning of Glorious Deeds`. He also became widely known for a key role in Svetlana Druzhinina`s film `Circus Princess`. His acting credits include films such as `The Secret of the Blackbirds`, `Visit to the Minotaur`, and `Lermontov`. In the 1990s, Moroz shifted his focus to directing, helming popular television series like `The Brothers Karamazov`, `Pelagia and the White Bulldog`, `Ugrium River`, `Mosgaz. Case No. 5: Operation Satan`, among others.
