State Duma Deputy Igor Antropenko, a member of the United Russia party, has put forward a proposal to gather the opinions of residents in Russian regions regarding the significance of events commemorated by local monuments. The information collected from such public consultations could potentially be sent to the Russian Ministry of Culture to enhance the existing lists of monuments slated for repair under a simplified process.

According to Antropenko, the initiative involves “launching a public vote, conducting a sociological assessment, or simply collecting citizen opinions to identify those monuments and related events that Russians consider historically significant, connected with the destiny of a particular family, city, or region. The outcomes could be submitted to the Ministry of Culture of Russia to supplement the current lists of memorials and monuments designated for simplified repair procedures.”

Previously, Antropenko had also advocated for implementing penalties for officials found responsible for the inadequate maintenance of burial sites that preserve the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland.
