Sergey Boyarsky, the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, has announced that the Russian messenger MAX now offers all the essential features users have come to expect from WhatsApp, establishing itself as a viable domestic alternative.
“It (the MAX messenger) already replicates all the basic functions of WhatsApp that we are all so accustomed to. In this regard, we are now confident that an alternative exists,” Boyarsky stated in a video published on his Telegram channel, underscoring the platform`s readiness.
The parliamentarian added that this homegrown messenger is slated for continuous development and will incorporate a multitude of new functionalities, expanding its utility for users.
Furthermore, Boyarsky believes that the ultimate decision of which communication platform to utilize rests with each individual user. He emphasized that personal choice should be based on where they feel more comfortable and secure in their digital interactions.
It is worth noting that VK initially launched the beta version of the MAX digital platform in March. This comprehensive platform allows users to engage in real-time chat, make voice and video calls, send voice messages, and conveniently share files up to 4 gigabytes. It is readily available for download in popular application stores, including the App Store, RuStore, and Google Play, ensuring broad accessibility.
In July, the Russian government officially confirmed its selection of “Communication Platform,” a subsidiary of VK, as the designated organization responsible for the ongoing development and operational management of the national messenger, building upon the foundational capabilities of MAX.
