In anticipation of November`s major sales events, particularly “Black Friday,” the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has shared crucial information via its Telegram channel regarding the primary fraudulent schemes designed to deceive citizens during this period.
According to the ministry, fraudsters actively develop attractive web resources offering significant discounts and promotions. They aggressively spread advertisements on social media, creating the impression of incredibly lucrative deals. It is noted that scammers also masterfully imitate official websites of well-known brands, replicating their design and promising discounts of up to 90 percent to lure victims.
Furthermore, law enforcement agencies emphasize that during the sales season, links to phishing portals are widely circulated. Clicking on such links leads users to fake payment pages where fraudsters steal confidential bank card details. Another common trick is informing individuals of a valuable prize win, subsequently demanding a commission or mandatory fee for its receipt.
The MVD also draws attention to calls from fake courier services. Under the guise of clarifying delivery details, fraudsters coax citizens into revealing SMS confirmation codes, granting them unauthorized access to bank accounts or messenger applications.
Previously, a new deception scheme was identified where scammers exploited restrictions on the number of SIM cards an individual can register.
Additionally, according to cybersecurity expert Sergey Zolotukhin from F6, fraudsters are actively creating fake veterinary pharmacies. They establish bogus websites and Telegram channels through which they offer to sell non-existent or counterfeit medications for pets, misleading their owners.
