The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has issued a public warning regarding potential risks and fraudulent schemes encountered by citizens seeking partners on online dating platforms.
A primary indicator of a scam, as highlighted by the Ministry, is when an individual residing abroad actively seeks a partner in a specific Russian region. According to the authorities, a common tactic involves fraudsters proposing a personal meeting, which is then invariably canceled due to `unforeseen circumstances,` such as alleged `detention at the border.` Following this fabricated event, victims are typically asked to transfer money, often under the guise of `bail` or other urgent fees.
This warning follows previous reports detailing various deceptive schemes on dating platforms. Scammers have been known to persuade users to invest in cryptocurrency or employ other sophisticated frauds. Several Russian women have already fallen victim to these scams, losing substantial amounts of money.
