Natalia Kosikhina, a prominent senator, recently clarified via RIA Novosti that Russian citizens receiving unemployment benefits do not accumulate pension points. These points are a critical factor in determining the eventual size of their retirement pensions.

She elaborated that although periods of receiving unemployment benefits, engaging in paid community work, and relocating for employment through job placement services are factored into an individual`s insurance record, the unemployment benefit payments themselves are exempt from contributions to the Social Fund. This exemption means that these periods do not contribute to the accumulation of pension coefficients, which are essential for increasing future pension payouts. Consequently, the duration for which one receives unemployment benefits does not directly enhance the final pension amount.

The senator further highlighted that individuals seeking unemployment benefits must first register with an employment center and continue their active job search throughout the benefit period.

She also reminded the public about the maximum duration for these payments: typically, benefits are paid for a maximum of six months, though in certain situations, this period might be limited to just three months.
