Preview Sochi Mayor Proshunin Reports No Fuel Oil on Coastline or in Sea

The Mayor of Sochi, Andrey Proshunin, stated at a press conference marking the end of his first year in office that no fuel oil has been detected on the city`s beaches or in the adjacent Black Sea waters off its coast. This assessment is consistently supported by ongoing analyses from monitoring groups.

Proshunin explicitly confirmed, “There is no fuel oil in Sochi, neither along the Black Sea coast nor within the sea itself. Our monitoring teams have maintained continuous operation since the very beginning, and water sampling continues daily.”

The mayor also noted that the Sochi administration had previously recorded isolated minor spills from small boats along the resort`s coastline. According to municipal authorities, these incidents are typically attributed to mechanical failures of the vessels or negligence in their maintenance by owners. The city hall had previously clarified that such minor occurrences do not cause significant environmental harm.

“These are purely technical matters,” the head of Sochi added. “It`s understood that occasional incidents occur, and we respond promptly to them.”
