Service Overload May Be Causing Satellite Communication Issues
Recent disruptions in Starlink`s satellite internet service may be attributed to a lack of available resources, as reported by the television channel CNBC.
A widespread outage affecting Starlink on the night of August 19 was particularly felt by users in the United States. CNBC analysts suggest that the cause might be SpaceX`s inability to cope with the current load due to insufficient capacity.
It is noted that Elon Musk`s company already operates over 7,000 Starlink satellites and serves more than 6 million subscribers across 140 countries. Despite plans to increase satellite launches from 50 to 100 per year, CNBC experts believe that Starlink`s rapid expansion is outpacing its infrastructure capabilities, leading to network overloads.
According to journalists, Starlink users might face further service interruptions in the future. This is linked, in part, to Elon Musk`s strained relationship with former U.S. President Donald Trump, which, they speculate, could negatively impact SpaceX`s position in the space launch market.
SpaceX itself attributes service disruptions to internal issues. For instance, after a significant outage on July 24, the corporation cited temporary malfunctions in key internal software services.
Notably, in early August, SpaceX halved the price of the Starlink satellite internet starter kit in the US. Terminals for the service are now available for $175 (approximately 14,000 rubles) instead of the previous $350 (approximately 28,000 rubles).
