Tesla shareholders have initiated legal action against the corporation and its CEO, Elon Musk, concerning statements made about robotaxi technology. This development was reported by Gizmodo.
Several shareholders filed a lawsuit in a U.S. federal court. They accuse Tesla and Elon Musk personally of making false representations regarding the safety of autonomous vehicles. The shareholders assert that Musk`s actions are damaging the company`s reputation and contributing to a decline in its market value.
The plaintiffs cited a series of incidents where Tesla`s self-driving taxis created hazardous situations on public roads. Furthermore, they pointed out that in late June, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) commenced an investigation into traffic violations by the robotaxis.
Journalists at Gizmodo also accused Elon Musk of deceiving shareholders. They recalled that in October 2024, Tesla unveiled its Cybercab autonomous vehicles, designed without a steering wheel or pedals. However, according to the publication, instead of the promised Cybercabs, the company is using standard Tesla vehicles, employing drivers to operate them, yet branding the service as fully autonomous. Gizmodo also highlighted that the corporation generally avoids communication with the press.
It was noted that in late July, Tesla was compelled to launch a conventional taxi service in San Francisco, California, instead of its planned robotaxi service, due to a lack of necessary permits. Earlier, in June, Tesla robotaxis had begun operating in Texas.
