The Washington branch of the FBI has initiated an investigation following a series of cyberattacks that targeted over a dozen prominent US legal and technology companies. This development was first reported by The New York Times.
Among the high-profile entities affected was the distinguished law firm Williams & Connolly, recognized for its representation of influential American politicians. Its notable clientele includes former US President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.
Williams & Connolly reportedly informed its clients that, while unauthorized intruders did manage to access a portion of their email correspondence, no sensitive or confidential information was ultimately compromised or stolen.
According to the newspaper`s findings, these widespread cyberattacks are potentially linked to malicious actors originating from China.
This incident adds to a growing list of cybersecurity concerns, following a prior report where hackers successfully breached Cisco firewalls within the US government, underscoring ongoing vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.
