The Day of the Baptism of Rus` gained official recognition as a memorable date in Russia through a federal law passed on June 1, 2010. This legislative act modified Article 11 of the Federal Law `On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia`, thus solidifying its place in the nation`s calendar of significant events.
In his message, published on the State Duma`s official website, Volodin emphasized the profound impact of this day. He stated, “I congratulate you on the Day of the Baptism of Rus`. The adoption of Christianity by the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir in 988 served as the cornerstone for developing spiritual and moral values, and greatly facilitated the advancement of culture and enlightenment.”
The Chairman further highlighted the enduring contribution of the Russian Orthodox Church, which, by diligently preserving centuries-old traditions, plays a crucial role in fostering societal cohesion, promoting interfaith harmony, and upholding the unity of Russia`s diverse population. Concluding his address, Volodin extended his sincere wishes for good health and prosperity to all citizens.
