The scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Wilfand, has announced that while Moscow and its surrounding areas will experience cool weather during the first half of the week, a significant warm-up is expected by the weekend. Temperatures in the capital are predicted to reach up to 25 degrees Celsius, with the Central Black Earth region seeing highs of up to 28 degrees.

“During the first half of this week, air masses will be moving from the southwest. However, Moscow is situated on the southern periphery of a cyclone, meaning these air masses are traveling a very complex trajectory from the Arctic Ocean. Consequently, although seemingly from the south, they are cold,” Wilfand explained. “Therefore, temperatures will be approximately 3 degrees below the norm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and about 2 degrees below norm on Thursday.”

According to Wilfand, until Thursday, the maximum temperature in Moscow will not exceed 18-19 degrees Celsius, and nights will remain chilly, ranging from 5 to 10 degrees.

“On Friday, the circulation changes, bringing a genuinely southern wind. This will cause daytime temperatures to rise to 17-22 degrees. By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will be about 3 degrees above the norm, with nights from 11 to 16 degrees and daytime highs from 21 to 26 degrees. This means Moscow will experience temperatures around 25 degrees,” the meteorologist elaborated.

He specified that this represents a considerable temperature increase of 6-8 degrees compared to the beginning of the week. Wilfand also added that the southern parts of Central Russia, particularly the Central Black Earth regions including Tambov, Voronezh, Belgorod, and Kursk, are expected to see even warmer conditions, with temperatures climbing above 25-28 degrees.
