Chinese technology corporation Xiaomi has introduced a new artificial intelligence assistant known as Mi Chat. This significant development, initially reported by the publication ITHome, underscores the company`s accelerating commitment and growing capabilities within the competitive AI sector.

The newly developed neural network is designed for seamless integration across Xiaomi’s entire ecosystem of devices and services. Mi Chat operates using the custom Large Language Model (LLM), MiMo-7B-RL, which the company first launched earlier this year.

Sources familiar with the project are already labeling the forthcoming service as a potential “ChatGPT killer.” Intriguingly, despite the MiMo-7B-RL model having a relatively modest 7 billion parameters, internal testing suggests it surpasses key competitors. In crucial benchmark evaluations, the MiMo-7B-RL reportedly demonstrated superior performance compared to OpenAI`s o1-mini and Alibaba`s Qwen QwQ-32B-Preview models.

Strategic Investment and Future Goals

This rollout aligns with previous statements made by Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, who confirmed the corporation has been making substantial financial investments in AI development over the past several quarters. Weibing also outlined the immediate technical objective for Xiaomi’s engineers: achieving the deep and comprehensive integration of neural networks with the physical world.

The formal presentation of Mi Chat is expected to take place on December 17th at the Xiaomi 2025 Human Car Home Ecosystem Partner Conference, scheduled to be held in Beijing.

This move positions Xiaomi at the forefront of a major industry trend; as previously observed by the Financial Times in early December, major Chinese smartphone manufacturers are aggressively marketing advanced AI features in their devices as a primary strategy to gain a competitive edge against global rivals, particularly Apple.
