AMD’s upcoming high-performance APU, the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, has been leaked. It was spotted on PassMark within an HP workstation, and as expected, it’s geared towards AI. This is evident from its designation as part of the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO series and its appearance in a high-end HP workstation. The significant feature is its 192GB of RAM, strongly indicating a primary focus on AI applications where memory capacity is crucial.

This chip adheres to the same extreme-tier APU philosophy as Strix Halo: a Zen 5 core architecture, a substantial RDNA 3.5 iGPU, and unified memory optimized for AI workloads, content creation, and compact workstations. The Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 represents an upgrade over the current Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395. Essentially, this platform, codenamed Gorgon Halo, appears to be an iteration rather than a completely new design. It maintains the same CPU and GPU architecture, with the primary enhancement being the increase in maximum RAM capacity from 128GB to 192GB.

AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495: An AI MAX+ PRO 395 with Increased RAM Capacity

The AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 features a 16-core processor based on the AMD Zen 5 architecture, supporting 32 processing threads. This is identical to the CPU found in the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395, which operates at a base frequency of 3.00 GHz and a boost clock of 5.10 GHz; the frequencies for this new model are not yet known. In terms of graphics, there’s a slight alteration. This APU includes an AMD Radeon 8065S iGPU, a minor step up from the existing top-tier Radeon 8060S. It’s likely that the core count will remain the same, with only an increase in clock speeds.

The sole significant difference is the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495’s capability to utilize up to 192GB of LPDDR5X RAM. This information comes from the HP system featuring a total of 188GB of usable memory. To achieve this, the system employed 8 SK Hynix memory packages, each with a 24GB capacity. This is a considerable advancement from the 128GB LPDDR5X at 8000 MT/s supported by its predecessor. Given that RAM is paramount for AI performance in such chips, the improvement is clearly focused in this area.

In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 scored 57,525 points in PassMark CPU Mark and 4,293 points in single-core tests. Compared to the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (non-PRO), which achieved 55,163 points and 4,161 points in single-core, this represents an approximately 4% increase in multi-core and a 3% increase in single-core performance. Against the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, the improvement is more substantial, with scores of 51,778 points and 4,086 points respectively. This translates to a gain of about 11% in multi-core and 5% in single-core. Therefore, the primary relevant enhancement beyond increased RAM capacity for large LLM models is minimal.
