AI-Powered Banking Fraud: Docaposte and Deloitte's "Trust Firewall" Fights Back

Identifying account holders isn't enough to prevent fraud, according to Julien Maldonato, a partner at Deloitte France. Knowing who owns an account doesn't reveal how a specific transaction occurred. For instance, a verified account owner might not be the one who initiated a transfer; their identity could have been stolen. The critical challenge, Maldonato stresses, is to reconstruct who controlled the operation, with what authorization, and using which specific document, often long after the event. Loïc Balaÿ, head of the Insurance market at Docaposte, agrees. He believes the European digital wallet should verify these identity elements at the outset, akin to a pre-validated digital ID. This approach aims to better protect financial institutions while simplifying processes for customers.
