iPhone Duo: Apple Reveals More StandBy Mode Features
Apple hasn't fully revealed all the capabilities of its first foldable iPhone. Files within iOS point to additional display options for its StandBy mode.
At its September 9th event, Apple showcased some of the features for the iPhone Duo's StandBy mode. However, with commercial release weeks away, the company may still have more to show. Developer and leaker pdfu found several new references in the foldable smartphone's software. Some of these were not demonstrated by Apple during the phone's presentation.
On social media platform X, developer and leaker pdfu identified five more displays for the iPhone Duo's StandBy mode: Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade, and Snoopy.
Home Camera and Home Modular appear to be the most straightforward. The former would allow users to view a camera feed. The latter might display multiple feeds simultaneously or offer custom controls for smart home devices.
Information on the other three is more limited. According to pdfu, Flow could present a graphic animation that responds to on-screen activity. Fade seems to operate on a similar principle. Snoopy, as its name suggests, is expected to resemble the tvOS screensaver featuring the famous Peanuts character.
Apple has clearly put significant effort into the interface of its first foldable iPhone. The company aimed for consistency as the device transitions between configurations, in both its design and user experience. Apple designers stated their goal was to avoid the impression of using two separate devices when the phone is unfolded.
With StandBy mode, Apple capitalizes on the iPhone Duo's various positions. While Apple had already presented several options during its announcement, the references found in iOS indicate the list might be longer than anticipated.
The smartphone is scheduled for release on October 23rd, leaving time for more details to potentially emerge before its arrival.
